An exciting opportunity has arisen within Leo’s (Registered Charity 1179901) for a warm, caring, and compassionate individual to join our growing peer support team as a Parent Infant Mental Health and Wellbeing Mentor.
Leo’s is an award-winning charity that provides mental health support to families who have experienced neonatal care within the North East.
The successful candidate will be required to provide dedicated peer support to families both in the community and on the neonatal units we support across the North East (when safe to do so due to COVID-19 restrictions). Peer support is the backbone of Leo’s, and provides positive, person-centred support to aid family recovery after neonatal trauma. The role will include managing a small individual case load, as well as running low-level groups such as stay and play. It will require using personal experience to benefit the needs of others.
This position will see the delivery of essential extensive safeguarding training, and a two day peer support training course based on the Health Education England Peer Support Framework. Training will also be delivered on our Central Management System, note taking and completing referrals and family assessments.
Leo’s is an incredibly busy service provider and therefore the successful candidate will work to strict deadlines, and have excellent time management skills.
The individual will be required to work alone and as part of the team, but will be supported and managed by the Chief Executive Officer in their role
As part of the interview, all applicants will undertake a psychological counselling assessment to ensure they are safe to do this role.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the recovery of our neonatal families and be passionate in providing exceptional care.
An additional part of this role is focussed on fundraising to support the sustainability and longevity of Leo’s for service users in years to come. Fundraising is often undertaken outside of traditional working hours (e.g. evenings and weekends) and is an unpaid part of the role.
Lived experience of neonatal care is desirable, with a minimum of two years post discharge from hospital.
10 hours per week £17,700 pro rata
This post is funded by The National Lottery.
