An exciting opportunity has arisen within Leo’s (Registered Charity 1179901) for a tenacious, warm and caring individual to join our team to support families within both hospital and community settings.
Leo’s is an award-winning charity that provides mental health support to families who have experienced neonatal care within the North East.
Thanks to funding from both the CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) and The National Lottery, Leo’s has secured funding for a dedicated peer support role. This role would aim to bridge the gap between maternity and neonatal care, with a focus on improving maternal and family mental health and wellbeing for those who fit the referral criteria.
Working in conjunction and collaboratively with NHS teams to provide optimum perinatal mental health support, providing continuity of care, and offering real time support in acute trauma setting where crisis often happens for families. This is a new emerging role, which aims to fill the gap between the two specialities, providing a link for mental health, utilising an early intervention and prevention approach through peer support.
Mental health support is a core element of family integrated care and has been highlighted in both the Neonatal Critical Care Review and Better Births. By creating this role that will provide a support pathway for families identified during pregnancy / preconception, and through the neonatal stay to provide early interventions.
The post enables a trained advocate who has lived in experience to complement the service and hopefully remove pressure from NHS neonatal and maternity staff in identifying perinatal mental health concerns, maternal, paternal, and infant mental health concerns and address these accordingly.
The post holder will provide person centred peer support and understand the fundamentals of trauma informed care to ensure support, signposting and advocacy provided is substantial.
This post is a one year post. This post can be flexible and be a full time or 2 x part time roles. Please specifiy in your covering letter how many hours you require.
Lived experience is essential.
