Tell Us Tags

Name:   SNUG and Exeter Neonatal Unit

Which NICU are you based in?  Exeter Neonatal Unit

Name of project:   Tell us tags

SNUG (Supporting Neonatal Users and Graduates) our parent and family support group worked in partnership with us to create this communication resource for parents entitled “Tell Us Tags”. The Tags encourage parents to update unit staff about when they will be on the unit to deliver cares for their baby and questions they might have, as well as how much support they might need from unit staff.

The resource also provides the space for staff to leave a message for parents.

Adjusting to a neonatal environment takes time and parents will feel enabled to care for their babies at very different paces. This is unique for every family. Clear communication is essential in supporting family well-being and on some days parents simply do not have the energy to communicate their needs verbally. The tags enable parents to identify their support needs and communicate to the team about what support they may or may not need and what matters to them simply by ticking a box.  They are also a great framework for staff to encourage and enable parents to care for their baby.
