As part of our ongoing commitment to caring for the families in James Cook Neonatal Unit & families in the community across the region, we are thrilled to announce our first collaboration with the Community Outreach Team.
The James Cook Neonatal Community Outreach Team & Leo’s Neonatal Playgroup!
Lead by Neonatal Community Sister, Sarah Brooks, Sarah wanted a safe space for parents to simply enjoy their maternity or paternity leave.
We were blown away by her compassion and love for giving back to families and helping them feel supported once they had gone home.
We were over the moon when Sarah asked us to be part of this with the team and we’ve been working closely to develop ideas and activities which will help families in the community.
As we grow, Leo’s dedicated volunteers will attend the group to support families and we’ll also be working as a team to create new playgroups to reach more families.
Today at the group, Sarah told us:
“I have worked on the neonatal unit at James Cook for 17 years and I have recently been given the wonderful opportunity to work in the outreach team supporting babies and families once they have been discharged.
Today we launched our neonatal community support group with the support of Leo’s. Our aim is to give our families continuing support once discharged from hospital in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
We want you to enjoy this precious time, we are here for you to offer advice, support and a good old cuppa. The group is open to anyone who has or has a baby on the neonatal unit no matter how long or short your stay was, you are all more than welcome.”
We were joined by Emily Murphy and her two twin girls, she told us: “The group is important because its a safe zone where everyone understands you and you can meet new people and have support whilst the babies also get to play and make new friends. Leaving the unit and finding your way with a premature or poorly baby is so difficult and having the group there to speak to other parents is such a comfort!”
The group is on every first and third Wednesday of the month and is held at The Beacon, Langdon Square, Coulby Newham Baptist Church TS8 OTF
